Collection: 9x Roasted Korean Bamboo Salt

This collection gathers K-LAVA bamboo salt (jukyeom) made in Hamyang, Korea by Insanga (인산가): sea salt sealed in bamboo with clay and roasted over a pine-wood flame, plus Insanga's bamboo salt toothpaste.

Insanga's bamboo salt carries the 120-year legacy of Dr. Insan Kim Il-hun, as printed on the K-LAVA label, and is still fired one small batch at a time.

Which Bamboo Salt Should I Choose?

Original 9x Powder (230 g)

Grey-white and milder. Dissolves in seconds for everyday cooking.

Original 9x Crystals (240 g)

Coarse grey-white crystals to sprinkle whole, crush, or grind.

Purple Powder (230 g, 자죽염)

Hotter final roast, purple color, bold sulfurous taste. Dissolves fast in soups and sauces.

Original or Purple?

Both 9x grades are roasted nine times in bamboo. Purple gets a hotter final roast that melts the salt and turns it purple, with a bolder, more sulfurous taste. Original stays grey-white and tastes milder.

About the Sulfur Note

A natural boiled-egg aroma and taste is normal in 9x bamboo salt. It is strongest in Purple and when the salt touches the tongue directly, and it softens in food or water.
